Forgotten IUDs, adhesions following multiple curettes, polyps, fibroids in the cavity of the uterus and tissue from a previous pregnancy loss or termination can all cause failure of an embryo to implant.

These conditions are diagnosed and treated by hysteroscopy.    The success rate will depend on the cause of the uterine problem.

Hysteroscopy is a simple procedure which is performed under a light anaesthetic.   A fine telescope is passed through the cervix and enables the Gynaecologist to check the lining of the uterus.   If abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids or adhesions (scar tissue) are found within the uterus these can be treated at the time of the procedure.   The procedure is undertaken as a day case and no incisions are required on the abdomen and all women are able to return to normal activities within a short space of time.
