Why consider sperm donation?
Some people are unable to conceive a child without the assistance of a sperm donor. Whether it be for reasons such male infertility, LGBQTIA+ relationship or a single person hoping to have a baby, many people rely on the generosity of sperm donors to make this dream a reality. Here at Ballarat IVF, we have a significant number of patients waiting for a sperm donor. This is often their only option to create a family.

- Over decades, sperm counts are declining at a significant rate in Western countries Male factor is a leading cause of infertility for many couples.
- Birth rates in over 80 countries are now below population replacement levels (2.1)
- Endocrine disrupting chemicals (such as those found in plastics, shaving cream, water bottles etc) are likely to be the leading cause of the decline in sperm quality

How do you become a BIVF sperm donor?
- An initial appointment will be arranged with one of our fertility specialists to discuss the option of becoming a BIVF sperm donor.
- At this point, you will be ordered some screening blood tests and a semen analysis to assess your suitability for becoming a sperm donor.
- We will then arrange an appointment with one of our donor team nurses to discuss the process of donating sperm and any questions or concerns you may have.
- The donor team will provide ongoing guidance and support throughout your time with us.

- Counselling is required before you begin donating to discuss the consent process and educate you on all aspects of donation. These sessions are often done via telemedicine with a BIVF appointed counsellor.
- When all requirements have been completed – you can begin your donations at the BIVF Lab, located in Ballarat.
- 3 months following your final donation, we will ask you to repeat a screening blood test.
- BIVF will reimburse you for all relative costs for your sperm donation to our clinic, (including, time and medical expenses).
